HNW insurance products aim to provide a higher level of protection. Often policies will be advertised as being warranty free.
What is a warranty?
This is a strict condition insurer require you to adhere to for cover to be in force.
As a private buyer do I have any protections?
Yes, the Financial Ombudsman service is open to you in the event of a dispute with insurers. Insurance companies will also have a formalised complaints procedure you can follow in order to resolve any issues.

Usually, a household policy will cover all occupants if they are related or cohabiting.

You can request this cover although insurers will usually charge for this cover unless it is a high-net-worth policy where it is usually given as standard.
Do I have to declare what jewellery I have?
At the very least you should declare the total amount of jewellery you have and check to see what the single article limit is. If your items exceed this, you will need to refer the item for insurers to consider giving cover.
What is a single article limit?
This is the maximum an insurer will pay up to for any one particular item. Items which are valued at higher amount than the single article limit will need to be referred to insurers for consideration.
What is an agreed value policy?
This is a where a price for damage or loss of an item is agreed prior to the policy inception. This is very useful for motor vehicles like classic cars where it would not be appropriate to apply normal wear and tear valuations. This can also be applied to items like paintings or artwork.
What is an any driver policy?
In personal insurance terms, this policy will usually allow any licensed driver the use of your vehicles subject to them not being resident in your household and meeting a certain criteria.
